About Anne

Anne practiced for 25 years as an Occupational Therapist in the UK , working for the National Health Service and Social Services within various specialties - orthopaedics, dyspraxia, children with disabilites, upper limb injuries, pain management, and psychiatry of old age. Latterly she undertook professional training at the Bristol School of Holistic Therapies being awarded a Diploma in Reflexology accredited with a Distinction by the International Examining Board in London . Anne also holds a Distinction in the IEB Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology. She also trained in the Booth method of Vertical Reflex Therapy , which is undertaken with the client standing up.

After qualifying from the Bristol school Anne moved to Provo, Utah . There she built up a business treating clients with a wide range of conditions including sinusitis, PMS, kidney problems, gout, shoulder, back and neck pain, traumatic amputations of toes, tennis elbow, arthritis, stress and osteoporosis who found the reflexology beneficial. During this time Anne developed a special interest in fertility problems and pregnancy.

Fertility Problems and Reflexology

Anne undertook Susanne Enzer's Maternity Reflexology Course whilst she was in Utah, gaining the Certificate of Competency in Maternity Reflexology which also included reflexology for fertility problems as it also covered the topic of Preconceptual Care

More recently she has been treating clients who have had fertility problems ("infertility") where she has found it advantageous to administer reflexology treatments both partners to decrease the huge stress this problem can generate and clients have reported improvements in their pre existing conditions as well, such as PMS, asthma, back problems, headaches to name a few. Many reflexologists in America specialise in this one area (fertility problems) and have good rates of success.

Reflexology and Maternity

Anne has also treated many pregnant women. These ladies reported back that the reflexology had been very helpful in assisting them to cope with the huge physical and emotional changes that they were experiencing. The pregnant women also found the reflexology helped relieve the many and varied minor side effects of their pregnancies for example backache, tiredness, swollen ankles, itchy skin, and mood swings. One of these ladies commented “I know how reflexology makes me feel afterwards and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to feel wonderful and relaxed.”

Reflexology research on Labour

Reflexology research has shown that women who have reflexology during pregnancy have reduced labour times. Generally for the first stage of labour, text books state a duration of 16 - 24 hours is the norm, whereas with reflexology it has been cut to an average of 5 hours. For the second stage of labour, text books state a duration of 1- 2 hours is usual, whereas with reflexology this was found to be an average of 16 minutes (Motha and Mcgrath)
